Tottenham winger Townsend has Euros advice for Shaw

Tottenham winger Andros Townsend says crocked Manchester United fullback Luke Shaw should swerve next summer's Euros.

Shaw will miss the tournament next summer after sustaining a double leg fracture during United's clash with PSV Eindhoven last month.

Townsend went to Brazil as an ITV pundit after being ruled out with an ankle injury, and admits that being so close yet so far made him feel worse.

"There is no bigger disappointment than missing out through injury and I feel for Luke. He was having a fantastic season and was one of the best English players in the Premier League so it's going to be difficult for him – I won't lie.

"It was harder than I thought for me. Beforehand I thought it would be alright, but once I was there and the tournament was going on it was incredibly difficult to handle. Being there as a pundit made it worse, being that close but not being involved.

"But it did give me the drive to push on, seeing the World Cup as close as I could, so that has given me the desire to make sure I am involved when the next tournament comes around."
