Tottenham winger Townsend excited by Leeds chance

Tottenham winger Andros Townsend is delighted with his loan move to Leeds United.

Townsend admits he is raring to go after joining up with his team-mates for training yesterday.

He said: "It was probably the quietest New Year's Eve I've had.

"I found out that I was going to Leeds and had to get up really early to travel up and meet and train with my new team-mates.

"I'm really excited as Leeds are massive. I know all about the club, having played against them last season when I was on loan at Ipswich.

"They just need that little kick to get them back into the Premier League — and I can't wait to get cracking.

"Hopefully, I can help them achieve that."

He added: "It was a no brainer coming to Leeds.

"The manager knows all about my game and he just wants me to express myself. I am so excited by this challenge.

"I know Darren O'Dea really well and he's going to help me settle in. We played at Ipswich last season together.

"At Tottenham, it was difficult to get a run of games — especially with Gareth Bale ahead of me! So this is the next best thing."
