Steve McClaren believes his Newcastle United side responded to their detractors on Sunday.
The Magpies made it two Premier League wins in a row by defeating Tottenham 2-1 in a come-from-behind triumph at White Hart Lane.
Goals from substitutes Aleksandar Mitrovic and Ayoze Perez saw Newcastle move two points clear of the relegation zone following last weekend's surprise victory over Liverpool, prompting the following words from the boss.
"I thought the players were fantastic today," he said.
"It's answered the critics we have had over last four weeks and it was a great performance in the second half and a great result.
"We have asked for consistency and the last two weeks they have provided that and it has brought everyone closer together.
"We kind of lost something in the international break and it's taken us two weeks to get that."
However, the experienced manager said that moving out of the bottom three would not prompt the team to rest on their laurels.
"In football you are only one week from going back down and we have to make sure we don't do that," he added.
"There is still a long way to go and it's a very important game next week against [Aston] Villa."
