Tottenham are interested in taking Ricardo Carvalho as part of Real Madrid's bid for Luka Modric.
However, the problem for Real is that Spurs have no interest in placing a value on the veteran defender. Instead, they would take him on a free transfer, meeting his €1.8 million salary.
Real have offered €30 million cash plus bonuses for Modric, which falls well short of Tottenham's €45 million valuation.
Meanwhile, Modric has been joined by his father in London as he hopes transfer talks accelerate with Spurs returning from their preseason tour of the US.
