Tottenham turned down with opening offer for Newcastle's Carroll

Newcastle have reportedly rebuffed Tottenham's offer of £25m for England striker Andy Carroll. The North East club are determined to retain the services of their star man and Toon boss Alan Pardew has repeatedly insisted he is not for sale.

Spurs have not been deterred and made a bid for the 22 year old who is currently on the sidelines injured.

But Press Association Sport understands the team from North London have been told Carroll will not be leaving St James' Park ahead of Monday's transfer deadline.

A high-ranking Newcastle official told Sky Sports News: "The club would like to make it clear for the very last time that Carroll is simply not for sale."

The source went on to describe the bid from Tottenham as 'paltry in the current climate'.
