Tottenham turned down in move for Madrid's Forlan

Tottenham's reported £13m bid for Diego Forlan of Atletico Madrid has been rejected by the Spanish outfit. Spurs made a late deadline-day bid for the Uruguay ace on Monday, however, after a meeting of the Primera Liga club's directors, Atletico have spurned the offer.

A source at the Spanish club said: "The offer is insufficient for the quality of our player."

Uruguay international Forlan has been with Atletico since arriving at Vicente Calderon from Villarreal in 2007.

Atletico's fierce local rivals Real Madrid had an offer of £13million rejected last week for the striker and instead opted to sign Emmanuel Adebayor on loan.
