Tottenham turned down chance to sign Sunderland striker Gyan

Tottenham rejected the chance to sign Sunderland striker Asamoah Gyan last week, it has revealed.

The Daily Star Sunday says Spurs turned down the chance to sign Gyan in return for Peter Crouch when Sunderland were trying to grab the England striker, who eventually joined Stoke.

Gyan remained at Sunderland after another proposed move, this time to French side Marseille, also collapsed.

The Ghana World Cup star now has a new strike partner at the Stadium of Light in Danish frontman Nicklas Bendtner, 23, who arrived on loan from Arsenal after rejecting a switch to Everton.
