Tottenham continue to be linked with a move for Everton midfielder James McCarthy.

The Irish international who was previously linked with Manchester City is the target for an ambitious player-plus-cash deal from Tottenham according to multiple reports.

Spurs boss Mauricio Potchettino is reported to be keen on negotiating a deal including Everton for wide-man Aaron Lennon, who spent last season on loan at the Toffees, and a fee.

However, Everton boss Roberto Martinez is keen to keep McCarthy at Goodison Park, and after issuing a hands-off warning to Man City, will be reticent to listen to any offer for the player he signed in 2013.

McCarthy´s situation continues to be clouded by the revelation that he remains one of Everton´s lowest earners, despite being promised a pay rise last year.
