Tottenham are planning a summer move for Atletico Madrid's Toby Alderweireld.

According to the Sunday Times, Spurs are hoping to hijack Chelsea's pursuit of the Belgian defender who is looking to leave the Vicente Calderon this month or next.

Alderweireld, 26, spent last season on loan at Southampton and is determined to land a move back to the Premier League as he strives to become a regular in the Belgium national team.

Atletico want Filipe Luis to return to the club after losing him to Chelsea last summer and are keen to use Alderweireld as a negotiating tool in landing the Brazilian from the English champions although Spurs are set to make their intentions clear by challenging for his services.
