Tottenham moved up to fourth in the Premiership with a comfortable 2-0 home win over local rivals West Ham. An early strike for Luka Modric, returning after a four month injury absence, set Spurs on the way to the three points.
The injury-hit visitors lacked a cutting edge and ex-Hammer Jermaine Defoe confirmed their defeat with nine minutes remaining when his initial effort was saved by Robert Green but he made no mistake with the rebound.
Harry Redknapp's men are now unbeaten in four matches and have kept four consecutive clean sheets for the first time since 2001.
Defoe is optimistic Tottenham can maintain their push for Champions League qualification.
"It's fantastic, that's what we wanted," told Sky Sports 1.
"I think we're good enough to compete up there, so we're delighted today with a great three points."
