Tottenham to take care of young gun Kane

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino says he will closely monitor the development of promising striker Harry Kane.

The 21-year old has enjoyed a breakthrough first half of the season with Spurs, scoring 11 goals in 20 appearances in all competitions, but Pochettino is aware that playing him too much may lead to burnout.

Kane has started the past six matches for the north London club but Pochettino suggests he may be given a rest in upcoming fixtures as English football prepares for the hectic Christmas schedule.

"Harry has the potential to be a great player in England. He works hard and scores goals and these are the principle values that he has," said Pochettino ahead of Wednesday night's Capital One Cup quarter-final with Newcastle United at White Hart Lane.

"But he is still young and you need to be careful with younger players. You have to manage, and be careful how you manage, this type of player.

"He needs to develop his game and improve every day and he needs to have the right mentality because this is new for him."
