Tottenham striker Saha: Eriksson wanted me to play for England

Released Tottenham striker Louis Saha admits he almost pledged his international future to England.

Saha nearly ended up playing for England after Sven Goran Eriksson tried to persuade him to switch allegiances.

French striker Saha, who has played in the Premier League for 13 years with Manchester United, Fulham and Tottenham, was approached by Eriksson about gaining English citizenship.

Saha, in his book Thinking Inside The Box, said: "Had I chosen to go ahead, I would never have been able to play for France, which in my heart of hearts did not feel right.

"And the idea of not playing well for England and having to put up with insults did not appeal!"
