Tottenham striker Harry Kane: I had to prove doubters wrong

Tottenham striker Harry Kane is proud to have proven his doubters wrong.

Kane scored just one goal in his opening 13 matches, leading to suggestions from certain sections of the media that he would be unable to live up to the success of the previous season.

However, the 23-year-old responded by scoring a further 27 goals to help Spurs secure a place in the Champions League and end 2015-16 as the Premier League's top scorer.

Kane has continued his fine form into this season and has netted 16 times in 24 appearances.

"Because I had come onto the scene so quick and I had started scoring early on, I think there was always going to be a time in my career when the goals were not happening so quickly and so fluently," he told the Daily Telegraph.

"I have always had a point to prove coming through the academy here and going on loan. I have always wanted to prove my ability and prove I'm capable of playing in the Premier League.

"I might have just been anticipating that. People might have been thinking that or saying that - 'can he do it again?' - so it was more just… I knew I was going to do it again, so it was about proving whoever doubted me wrong.

"I enjoy a challenge. I knew unless I started that second season scoring every game people were going to say 'he's not going to do as well' or 'he's not as good as last year'.

"So, I kind of expected that and I worked even harder to make sure that was not the case."
