Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe will not rush his return from injury.
Goals have been Defoe's trademark since he returned to Tottenham two years ago. Last season he finished with 28 in all competitions and was the only England striker to find net at the World Cup.
This season he had been ready to pick up where he left off before disaster struck in England's World Cup qualifier against Switzerland.
But the ankle injury he suffered back then is healing nicely. So much so that a protective boot he had been wearing since the September 7 setback was removed last week.
Defoe told the Mirror: "I'm not going to rush things because the club have had enough injuries without me breaking down again by coming back before I'm supposed to.
"But I am looking forward to coming back and helping Tottenham and England towards their targets in the second half of the season.
"In the meantime I'll be cheering on the boys like every other Spurs fan."
