Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe was delighted to score in the weekend's friendly win over Bournemouth.
"I've always said in pre-season that the most important thing is fitness and not getting injured but as a forward you want to score goals, it's only normal," Defoe told the club's website.
"To score was great and hopefully I'll kick on from here, keep getting my goals, keeping getting sharper and be ready for the start of the season."
JD admitted he felt sharper at Bournemouth than in the opener at Exeter on the Wednesday.
"We've worked really hard in training and that's all-important, to get ready for the matches," he said. "But it's always good when the games start because that's when you get your match fitness.
"The Peterborough game will be tough, they've got some good players and then Barcelona at Wembley, the European champions, a great test for us and then Celtic, a massive club.
"We're looking forward to these games and I'm sure the fans are as well."
