Such has been his determination to return to the Tottenham cause, Defoe has undergone radical treatments as part of his rehabilitation.
“I’ve been having cryotherapy,” he went on. “It is where you walk into a freezer with temperatures of minus 130 degrees.
“I’ve been going to Champney’s and whether its been stretching, massage, anything… the guy I have been working with, Nathan Gardener, has been outstanding.
“So much so that after my first 45 minutes back against Arsenal at the weekend, I didn’t even feel tired!
“Now I just want to get as many games as I can under my belt so that I can get my sharpness back and if I can do that then there will be no stopping me.
“In a strange way, maybe the injury was a blessing in disguise. I’d been away at the World Cup. I didn’t have that much time off before the season started again and I’d had problems with my groin.
"Now I have been able to rest fully and get my body back to where I want it to be.”
