Tottenham striker Defoe confirms op on backburner

Tottenham striker Jermain Defoe says groin op is on the backburner.

Defoe is so keen to carry on playing he is ready to ignore medical advice to have a hernia operation which would sideline him for a few weeks.

He said: "I'm not too sure whether I'm going to have the operation because I didn't have a reaction on Friday night, which is nice.

"It's been a little bit sore for weeks but I'm doing a lot of core work in the gym to strengthen the area and it's feeling better.

"I always want to play and put myself up for selection. I've spoken to the physios at the club and obviously you have to try and listen to them but I told t hem they have to trust me.

"I know my body and I've been lucky enough not to have too many injuries.

"Lucky enough on Friday night I didn't get any reaction at all so perhaps I can get away without having the operation."
