Bale faces his old club today at White Hart Lane.
He told The Sun: "I wouldn't say it's straightforward, they aren't mathematically safe yet and need to pick up a few points. I always look out for Southampton's results because it's a great club and I was there for nearly nine years since I was nine years old and left when I was 17.
"It's a club close to my heart and I was hoping they'd stay up this year and I think they definitely will. I still see people from the club. I know the physios and fitness coach and a few players I played with. Hopefully they can do well, just not in this game."
