Sunderland defender DeAndre Yedlin is hopeful of helping turn the Black Cats' fortunes around.

Sunderland have made a poor start to the campaign but their performance in the 1-0 defeat against Tottenham Hotspur at the Stadium of Light over the weekend was most certainly very encouraging.

USA international Yedlin was also impressed by Sunderland's performance against parent club Spurs and has now stated that he is keen on helping the Wearsiders build on the display to kickstart their flailing campaign.

Yedlin told the Chronicle: "I got to see the game on Sunday and, while it wasn't the result we wanted, it was a great performance. I am excited now to get on the field and hopefully win some games. I am just looking forward now for the future with this team.

"I thought the team played great and we definitely had our chances to win it. We fought well and the atmosphere in the stadium was great. Obviously the result is the next thing, but in terms of how we played it was great."
