Tottenham skipper Dawson: Defoe can handle Adebayor competition

Tottenham captain Michael Dawson was delighted seeing Jermain Defoe amongst the goals in victory at Hearts.

Dawson thinks Defoe will be able to handle the competition from Manchester City's Emmanuel Adebayor if he moves to White Hart Lane and has backed the 28-year-old to score regularly this season.

"At Tottenham all the players know that we have to fight for our places, especially when there is talk we are signing some players," Dawson told the London Evening Standard.

"When you walk on that pitch you have to make sure you do well to stay in the team next week and there is no doubt Jermain is looking sharper than ever.

"JD is a player who loves playing football and scoring goals. He is a top player. I have played against him when I was at Nottingham Forest, and have to stop him in training now. He always makes it very difficult for defenders.

"When you see him in and around the box he knows how to score as he showed against Hearts. Hopefully he will score plenty for us this season."
