New Tottenham signing Niko Kranjcar hopes former club Portsmouth can stay up this season.

He said: "I had a great time at Portsmouth and achieved some fantastic things, like winning the FA Cup and leading the club into Europe for the first time.

"I will always be grateful to Portsmouth because they gave me my first opportunity to play in the Premier League.

"The supporters made me very welcome when I first came over and always took me into their hearts so I would like to thank them for that.

"I hope they can stay in the Premier League and I believe they will. The fans and all the people that devote their life to the club deserve them to survive.

"It is going to be a tough season but I hope they keep fighting until the end."
