Tottenham are regarded as favourites for Ajax defender Jan Vertonghen.

The Sun says Spurs are on the verge of pulling off a major coup by beating Manchester City and Arsenal to the £6million capture of Vertonghen.

His agent Mustapha Nakhli confirmed: "There is enormous interest. A number of clubs have made concrete approaches, with Tottenham among them.

"Jan has a few dream clubs. Playing at the top of the Premier League is something he has worked really hard for."
