Tottenham's owners are seeking £500 million for the club.
It has been reported a billionaire investor from south-east Asia wants to become the latest investor in the Premier League.
But a club source mocked the idea that Spurs could be snapped up for around £400m.
He told The Sun: "It will take a lot, lot, lot more money than that.
"This is in the very early stages but the intention to buy Spurs is serious."
Manchester City cost their Arab owner around £220m but Tottenham believe their brand is worth a lot more.
