Tottenham's Wembley pitch plans rejected

Tottenham's plan to shorten the pitch at Wembley has been rejected by the Premier League.

According to reports in the Daily Mail, Tottenham has asked the league if they could make the pitch the same size as their previous home, White Hart Lane.

This wasn't just for familiarity purposes; Spurs have been largely unsuccessful at Wembley, losing all but one of their five clashes at the 90,000-seat stadium last season.

The Premier League introduced rules in 2015, which standardised pitch lengths to 68 metres.

Spurs former ground, which was knocked down at the end of last season, was one of only two pitches that were below that mark.

At Wembley, where Spurs will play while their new stadium is being built, is 69 metres in length.

It has been suggested then, that the wider ground at Wembley negates Tottenham's high pressing style of football.
