Tottenham's van der Vaart named player of October

Tottenham new boy Rafael van der Vaart has been named the Barclays Premier League Player of the Month for October.

The 27-year old Dutchman has made a great impact with Spurs since joining from Real Madrid in August and his best performances so far all came in October.

He kicked off with a double in Tottenham's 2-1 home win over Aston Villa before setting up Roman Pavlyuchenko's goal in the 2-1 away win at Fulham. He then scored the equaliser in the 1-1 home draw with Everton.

van der Vaart has scored four goals in seven league appearances for Spurs, scoring in every game he has played at White Hart Lane, and becomes the fifth Dutchman to win the Player of the Month award, behind Dennis Bergkamp, Ruud van Nistelrooy, Arjen Robben and Robin van Persie.
