Tottenham's Sherwood: There was no pressure to deliver Champions League

Tottenham boss Tim Sherwood has made it clear that there was never any pressure on him to guide the club into the Champions League this season.

Sherwood replaced Andre Villas-Boas in December and ever since there have been doubts regarding his future at the north London club.

Four months into the job, Sherwood has played down suggestions that chairman Daniel Levy and the Spurs board had placed a minimum of a top-four finish on his head but the former midfielder made it clear that was not the case.

"No, not at all. There was never any talk," Sherwood told Sky Sports after his side beat Sunderland 5-1 on Monday night.

"Obviously we wanted Champions League football, but there was never any pressure or talk about having to finish in the Champions League. Basically, it's just go out and do your best.

"They made a decision that they wanted to make a change and they asked me if I would like the opportunity, and I said, 'If it was right for me'. That's as far as it's gone. That's where we are now.

"I'm doing my best in every game to try and get this team high up the league and I'll continue to do that until the end."

Sherwood, who has Spurs placed sixth on the Premier League table, signed an 18-month deal in December but reports are suggesting he could be replaced by current Holland boss Louis van Gaal this summer.
