Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp was delighted with the debut of centre-half Sebastien Bassong in the Spurs 3-0 win over Olympiakos on the weekend.

Bassong joined Spurs from Newcastle United for £8million and his performance against the Greek club vindicated Redknapp's purchase.

"Bassong is going to be a fantastic player for us," Redknapp said.

"You saw him today - he's quick, strong, and good in the air.

"We checked him out with all the right people, every report was fantastic. So we don't have any doubts about his ability - and he's available for Sunday (season opener against Liverpool)."
