Tottenham's Pochettino: Shameful anti-Semitic banner 'unacceptable'

Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino has labelled Partizan Belgrade's anti-Semitic banner as unacceptable following the clash between the two clubs on Thursday night.

Spurs held the Serbian side to a 0-0 draw in their opening Europa League group stage match at the Partizan Stadium which was marred by the racially provocative words at the home end of the venue.

It has come to light that UEFA will investigate the incident after a delegate from European football's governing body took a photo of the banner on the night and the issue has also touched a nerve with Argentine Pochettino who spoke firmly in the after-match press conference.

"I didn't see it," Pochettino said. "The club is aware but I did not see (it myself).

"But if this is true, then it is an unacceptable thing. It is very disrespectful.

"This is a shame, very disrespectful and unacceptable."

This is the second time in recent history that Spurs have been the subject of racial abuse from Serbian supporters following the incident involving left-back Danny Rose when he was on England U21 international two years ago.
