Tottenham’s AVB expects UEFA to take action against Inter fans

Tottenham manager Andre Villas-Boas feels racist abuse nearly overshadowed tonight’s Europa League clash with Inter Milan.

Spurs lost 4-1 at the San Siro in the Round of 16 second leg but moved through to the quarter-finals on away goals after the two-legged tie ended 4-4.

Despite the overall triumph, Villas-Boas cast a dejected figure after the match which was tainted by negative chanting towards Spurs players with Nerazzurri fans also holding up an inflatable banana. The Portuguese hopes UEFA to take action against this anti-social behaviour.

"It's a very sensitive situation," Villas-Boas said. "UEFA set out to act on that situation.

"It was very, very easy to hear the chanting so I am sure that UEFA will act on it.

"It's difficult for Inter Milan because it is something that in some way has happened before.

"It doesn't mar the game but it is something that should have been avoided."
