AIA, the principal commercial partner of Tottenham Hotspur, are to partner with the North London club on their summer tour to Malaysia and Australia. The tour will include a match-up that will see Spurs take on a Malaysian XI on Wednesday 27th May, with the victors to take home the AIA Cup. The team will then travel to Sydney for a friendly with Sydney FC at ANZ Stadium the following Saturday.
AIA is hoping to align itself with Tottenham's aim of promoting community growth within Malaysia through soccer - the club claims to have an estimated 170 million fans in the Far East Asia region alone.
Bill Lisle, chief executive of AIA, stated: "AIA, the official shirt partner of Tottenham Hotspur Football Club, is pleased to partner with Spurs on its tour to Asia-Pacific, as part of our efforts to encourage healthy living among our customers and the larger communities in this region."
Aside from playing matches and hosting player meet and greets, Spurs plan to stage soccer clinics and other community outreach initiatives during their tour.
Mauricio Pochettino, the club's head coach, said: "Our global coaching team will be working alongside the tour in both Kuala Lumpur and Sydney towards the joint goal we have set with AIA - providing increased sporting opportunities and promoting health and wellbeing across the Asia-Pacific region."
