Tottenham are pushing Luka Modric to open new contract talks. The Sun says the Croatia midfielder, 26, was a £40million transfer target for Chelsea in the summer, while Manchester City have made no secret of their own admiration.

But White Hart Lane chairman Daniel Levy insists the club would not sell at any price.

And suggestions of a new contract aimed at doubling Modric's £50,000-a-week pay packet quickly followed once the transfer window closed.

But boss Harry Redknapp revealed: "I don't know where we are at with Luka. I'm sure the club is looking to tie him up."
