Tottenham progress at expense of Leeds

Tottenham set up an all Premiership 5th round FA Cup tie against Bolton, as they saw off brave Leeds resistance 3-1 at Elland Road. A Jermain Defoe hat-trick did the damage as Spurs showed their Premiership credentials but until they held a two goal cushion Leeds always looked threatening.

The visitors dominated for long periods but went in at the interval all square following a failure to take their chances.

Defoe went close several times before slicing left-footed into the top corner.

But as in the first match Leeds hit back and in first-half stoppage time Luciano Becchio forced home a rebound.

A wet pitch was suiting Spurs slick passing style and their ability to retain possession silenced the partisan home crowd.

With Gareth Bale and David Bentley superb down the flanks Spurs always looked dangerous. And it was the latter's cross in the 73rd minute which set Defoe up for his second.

With Leeds now committing men forward looking for an equaliser, Spurs broke away and Defoe calmly slotted home number three in the last minute.
