Werder Bremen defender Per Mertesacker is in the sights of Tottenham.
The Germany international has been a long-term target for Arsenal and was tipped to move to North London last month.
Now Spurs boss Harry Redknapp is being linked with Mertesacker as William Gallas stalls on signing a new deal for next season.
Redknapp could be forced into buying more than one new centre-half in the summer with concerns also persisting over the fitness of Ledley King.
