Tottenham have expressed interest in Atletico Madrid winger Nico Gaitan.

The London Evening Standard says Spurs have made an enquiry about Gaitan but Atletico do not want to sell the left-winger.

The former Benfica player has not been a first choice this season, but Diego Simeone believes the 28-year-old is still an important member of the squad.

Simeone has told Gaitan he wants to keep him and spelt out to the board how he values him.

Gaitan has scored two goals in nine La Liga appearances this season as Atletico sit fourth in the table - nine points behind city rivals Real Madrid, who also have a game in hand over Simeone's side.
