Tottenham, Man City eyeing Newcastle striker Carroll

Newcastle United fear losing Andy Carroll in the summer.

The People says Newcastle have already turned down bids from Stoke City and Wolves for Carroll, and Toon boss Chris Hughton knows the big boys - including Tottenham, Manchester City and Everton - are ready to move in during the summer. He is bracing himself to fight them off.

Under-21 gaffer Stuart Pearce has sent glowing reports to Fabio Capello about Carroll, but Hughton is determined to hang on to the player who he reckons can become one of the finest target men in the country.

With Ashley's cap on wages its going to be hard to keep some of our players - the likes of Man City & Spurs can offer higher wages to tempt the players they want.
Professional players naturally want to maximise their earnings and with contracts easily breached I can see the club coming under pressure to part company with one or two - perhaps Carroll and Steven Taylor are the most obvious.
Then we have Ashley's other stated strategy of acquiring young players who can be sold on at a profit. That also makes me uncomfortable.
What if Spiderman is a huge success in the World Cup we could have a 20 million GBP player . What do you think Ashley would do?Cash in of course but would the money go on new players. Certainly not all of it, some would pay back his recent loans to the club.
I may be too negative and loyalty to the club by local lads should not be overlooked. I just wish Alan Shearer could talk to our young guns about loyalty and the honour of being part of Newcastle United.
