The Daily Star Sunday says Tottenham have failed in a loan bid for Porto defender Rolando.
Dynamo Kiev and Fiorentina are now leading the chase for the £5m-rated Portugal centre-back, 27.
Villas-Boas, who was in charge of Rolando in his time at Porto, had been keen to take his compatriot on a season's loan.
