The Argentine says Lennon is a stand-out for him in the current Spurs team.
Villa told The Sun: "I like Aaron Lennon because he attacks people. He is quick and when I watch him I expect him to beat people.
"He has lost a little bit of confidence but nobody can stop him when he is confident. For me, he is a very exciting player. It is very difficult to explain why players lose confidence, but I believe it only takes one good game to get it back.
"The thing is just to play and forget about what everyone else says. He has to prove something to himself to get the confidence back — only he can do it. He needs to prove to himself that he is a top player."
Asked if Lennon can go down in history as Tottenham legend, Villa was adamant:
"Yes, he can be one of the best. He is a different type of player, not many are like him. He can pass people and attack, when he is confident, but he has something different about him and that is what makes him special."
