Tottenham legend Gary Lineker says losing Harry Redknapp to the England job will be a huge blow.

Lineker admits it would be a big setback for his old club to lose Redknapp.

He told the People: "It will be sad for Spurs if Harry goes because it is the first time since I was at the club that they have the upper hand on Arsenal.

"But now Spurs have to decide where they are going. Will they just be a side trying to get into the Champions League or do they want to really go for the title? "To try to take that extra step would be very expensive and a big gamble. It is not just the transfer fees but the wages.

"Spurs did well to keep hold of Luka Modric last summer but they haven't tied him down for the long term yet.

"If you are a top-class player, no matter how happy you might be at a club, and somebody is offering you two or three times as much money, the temptation to move on is always going to be there.

"A few years ago, Arsenal took the decision not to spend big and that seems to have backfired on them.

"So whoever the Spurs manager is next season, the most important factor for them is whether they are prepared to go out on a limb financially, which might be difficult while they are still at White Hart Lane."
