Former England and Tottenham striker Jimmy Greaves faces a "long and slow road to recovery" after suffering a severe stroke on Sunday, reports BBC Sport. The 75-year-old, who is fourth on the list of all-time England goalscorers having scored 44 times in 57 appearances, is in intensive care.
A statement from Greaves's wife Irene read: "Jimmy is having to do what he is told and understands the seriousness of what has happened to him.
"He's in the best hands."
His agent Terry Baker confirmed Greaves is "conscious but unable to speak".
