Tottenham kid Rose "shocked" by England U21 call

Tottenham midfielder Danny Rose is in shock over his call-up to the England U21 European Championship squad.

He told tottenhamhotspur.com: "I played for the Under-19s against Slovakia last Friday in front of Stuart Pearce and Sir Trevor Brooking, and I had a good game.

"After that, I spoke to my friend Danny Welbeck and found out he had dropped out of the Under-21 squad. There had already been a few withdrawals, so I started to think I might be in with a shout.

"When I had finished training with the Under-19s on Saturday, the coach, Brian Eastick, pulled me to one side and said that Stuart Pearce wanted a word with me.

"Even though I could almost see it coming by that stage, I was still in shock when I heard."

He added: "Stuart Pearce must think highly of me to even consider taking me out there with these kind of players at such an important tournament.

"I want to test myself alongside the best players in England, so hopefully the experience will improve me and I can come back to Spurs and show the manager I'm good enough to be part of his squad."
