Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes has welcomed an opening day clash with Liverpool for next season.

"I looked at all the fixtures on the internet and our game against Liverpool looks like the best of the opening weekend," he told the Spurs website.

"I think it's better to start at home than to start away.

"I always say our supporters are our 12th man, they help us so much. There is nothing better than when they are singing your name and we are determined to start better than last season.

"I hope we can win the first game for confidence. If we played any team and won it would be great but if we do that against a team like Liverpool, it's even better for us.

"We have many quality players here, a great group, and I'm very excited about next season."
