Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes insists their thrashing at Real Madrid was not due to the dismissal of Peter Crouch.
The keeper was stunned when Crouch was sent off after 15 minutes of Spurs' 4-0 Champions League trouncing by Real Madrid.
Gomes revealed: "At half-time Peter said sorry to everyone. We cannot blame him though, of course not. Now he needs to be strong to help us for the rest of the season.
"It won't be easy for us to pick ourselves up from this."
The Brazilian, sent off himself in the group stages at Inter Milan, accepts the Londoners must be more disciplined in Europe.
He said: "In away games, maybe the referee is looking for more things. Maybe we just need to block the ball, not do so many challenges. We have to think about it more. But it's not just Peter's fault."
