Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes is intent on grabbing the number one spot at the club.
The Brazilian shot-stopper, who was expected to miss up to three months with a groin injury, is determined to repay Spurs boss Harry Redknapp's faith and perform well for the rest of the season.
"The injury has improved very quickly and physically I am now close to being match fit and ready for the next game," he said.
"I'm very happy that the club have stuck with me, the manager has shown faith in me and that is so important to me.
"They could have signed a new keeper but I want to show I can be the first choice and keep improving."
