Tottenham goalkeeper Heurelho Gomes can't believe Newcastle United's relegation threat.
"I don't understand Newcastle's position in the league," Gomes said.
"They're an historic club with many supporters and a good squad, but their results haven't been positive.
"I was with PSV when they played a friendly at Newcastle. I was a substitute, and looking around the ground I could not believe so many fans were watching a friendly. I think there were 20,000 or more.
"This season, I thought Newcastle would be one of the clubs with a chance to qualify for the UEFA Cup. I'm really surprised by their situation at the moment.
"It will hurt English football if a club like Newcastle go down, but they still have chances to avoid that.
"A squad with Owen, Martins, Gutierrez, Coloccini and Duff has the quality to be in a better position. But I suppose nerves and pressure have a big influence on things."
