Luka Modric could be on his way from Tottenham this summer.

But Gareth Bale is expected to stay at White Hart Lane, no matter where they finish this season.

The London Evening Standard says Bale said he would have to consider his options should Spurs fail to qualify for next season's Champions League. Manager Harry Redknapp claims Bale is likely to remain at Tottenham but when asked about Modric, who requested a move to Chelsea last summer but was retained, he was far less confident.

Modric has still not signed the £100,000-a-week deal offered to him last year and Redknapp's words will have done little to fill Spurs fans with confidence. Even if the Croatian did put pen to paper, it would break the club's current £70,000-a-week wage ceiling and chairman Daniel Levy could expect phone calls from the agents of several other players, demanding parity for their clients.
