Tottenham are challenging Manchester City's interest in Benfica winger Eduardo Salvio.

The Daily Star Sunday says Benfica claim no bids have been made but they are bracing themselves for moves now it has been revealed he has a £50million buy-out clause in his contract.

City are looking to continue their summer spending after capturing Jesus Navas, 27, ­Fernandinho, 28, and Seville striker Alvaro Negredo, 27.

Spurs have so far only signed ­Corinthian's Brazil midfielder Paulinho but manager Andre Villas-Boas wants more arrivals.
