Tottenham will hold talks with Croatian playmaker Luka Modric in a bid to keep predators Chelsea at bay.
The 24-year old currently has three years to run on his contract but Spurs want to ensure that he does not want to leave for Stamford Bridge or any other club willing to pay him more than the £45,000 a week he earns at White Hart Lane.
The London club are keen to offer a new contract to Modric and could make him one of their highest-paid players as they enter Champions League football next term.
