Tottenham attempted to land Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor with a £4 million bid yesterday.
The Scottish Sun says Harry Redknapp wanted to take the keeper on loan with a view to a permanent switch in the summer.
The gaffer was desperate for a new keeper after Heurelho Gomes injured a shoulder and he failed to land Asmir Begovic of Portsmouth and Watford's Scott Loach.
Redknapp switched attention to McGregor but was left frustrated after missing the 5pm English transfer deadline.
He confessed last night: "I was interested in trying to loan McGregor but it wasn't possible.
"We tried for him late today but we were told he would not be going on loan anywhere."
