Tottenham face a battle for Standard Liege defender Eliaquim Mangala.
The France U21 international has been likened to Spurs veteran William Gallas.
The 20-year-old has been on Spurs' radar since he broke into the France Under-21 team in 2009 but Valencia have upped their interest in the full-back who can also play as a holding midfielder.
Mangala is believed to have pulled out of the Liege squad that faces FC Zurich in a Champions League qualifier on Thursday as he does not want to be cup-tied with a transfer seeming imminent.
