Tottenham face being forced to sell contract rebel Alderweireld

Tottenham and Toby Alderweireld are at a stand-off over new contract talks.

The Daily Mail says it is believed the Belgian, 29 next month, is seeking a five-year contract and a salary far in excess of the club's £110,000-a-week pay ceiling.

Talks are close to breaking point as there is such a distance between the two parties.

Alderweireld earns £50,000-per-week and Spurs have so far refused to give in to his demands while sources claim there is no middle ground in sight.

The player's deal expires in the summer of 2019, but Tottenham have the option of an extra 12 months.

However, triggering that extension would activate a clause allowing the Belgian to leave for £25million — well below market value. That means Tottenham may cash in this summer.
